Project 1078 is a mystery adventure game whose primary goal is to reinforce the importance of preventing climate change through the use of player-object interaction. The player is transported into a future version of Earth that can only be described as a barren wasteland. The player uses simple movement controls and an interaction key to discover what happened during their current time on Earth and the impending future.

Player Inclusivity

While the end product is a game, the project's goal was to include the user to help determine how to be more eco-friendly. We wanted the player to feel like they were piecing together the climate change mystery themselves, and the end of the game replaces the “What did you discover?” text at the top with whatever answer the player gives when prompted with the question “What can we do to help prevent Climate Change?”

Contributions:

I worked on the mockups for the art, pseudocode, and code for the player movement and interaction.

What I learned and What I would Improve…

In this project, I was challenged to create something technically challenging and present a visually appealing experience. This project was my first introduction to my love of UI/UX, and I am glad I could complete it with my team. I had never before realized how much I enjoyed combining the technical intricacies of programming, the delicate draw of an artist’s vision, and the accommodation of user intuition. The one thing I would wish to improve on would be the ending of the story game. The prompt is quite bland and dull. It stands out from the rest of the art, but given Javascript’s current limitations, I could not edit the visual style given the allotted time.
